With REC, it began with a bottle of Scotch between two friends in Copenhagen. Christian Mygh and Jonathan were talking about their greatest passion - cars and watches. From there, they decided to merge the two passions and 3 months later, the brand was launched with a truck the size of the Empire State building, housing several pallets of their very first timepiece Collection.
Zoom in 4 years later, with distribution to more than 60 countries worldwide, the journey of REC had just begun and there is still far to go for the two passionate entrepreneurs. REC Watches were a birth from the passion of timepieces and cars and the mission is to keep that promise, delivering stunning watches of the highest quality based on salvaged legendary cars coupled with a story to behold.
In search of the inspiration for their next masterpiece, REC stumbled upon an interesting story of the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7. One of the first owners of the vehicle was the German rally driver Peter Rumpfkeil. During his 3-year ownership, the car participated in several rallies, including the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally in the years 1976 and 1977 and the Lombard RAC Rally in 1976, before the battered RS was acquired by Danish car enthusiast Jørgen Schultz.
A German gentleman named Timo Rumpfkeil, who by pure coincidence had learned that REC was working on a Limited Edition Collection made from this very car. Timo is the son of Peter Rumpfkeil, and was able to provide REC with a far more complete background of this unique vehicle. In fact, it turned out that the very first owner of the car was none other than the famous German Racing driver Clemens Schickentanz. Evidently, the legendary mean machine had gone through a lot and many prolific racers has had their hands on the vehicle, making it a highly sought after piece of engineering.
Inspired by the story held by the car, REC had decided to build a watch based on the Porsche 911 Carrera RS. They named it - REC 901 RS Limited Edition.
The REC 901 RS Limited Edition dial is cut directly from a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS. The air- cooled RS (Rennsport) is one the most sought-after and legendary sports cars ever built. The Carrera RS 2.7 was the first Porsche 911-derived race car and the first production race 911 widely offered to the public. Only 1,580 were produced and prices on those still around have since skyrocketed.
This makes the watch all the more exclusive and high in value. The REC 901 RS Limited Edition is the first bracelet watch from REC Watches whereby they wanted to do this right the first time – and not just smack a steel bracelet on as an afterthought. As such, the stainless steel bracelet on the REC 901 RS Limited Edition follows the lines of the 901 case shape – which again is inspired by the soft, curving corners of the classic Porsche 911. As an addition to this, the yellow theme on the REC 901 RS Limited Edition pays homage to its organ donor – the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS. At an attractive price of RM8,159.00, the REC 901 RS Limited Edition comes with unrivalled quality and a great story.
“With every watch that comes, we do our best to ensure that they are made from parts of cars that have a great story. We understand that watch designs are important, but it also needs to be coupled with a great story. This gives our customers the opportunity to envision reincarnation slapped right on their wrists. Imagine checking for the time but then you’re instantly reminded by the great past the cars have had. It elevates the experience!”, said Mr. Thomas Dusinius Kronevald, Chief Sales Officer of REC Watches.
Petrol-heads to the bone, the REC 901 series includes salvaged Porsche 911 parts and incorporates subtle references to the legendary car, capturing the very essence of the Porsche 911. Including the newly launched REC 901 RS Limited Edition, there are 4 timepieces paying homage to the mean machine with the others labelled as the REC 901-01, REC 901-02 and the REC 901-03. Not only are they each visually unique, they are also born with authentic story of the car it was made from.
REC offers watches recreated from pieces of perfect engineering by re-imagining the cars taking another life in a different form - timepieces. The other collections available are the REC P-51 series which are salvaged from Ford Mustangs along with the REC Mark I and REC Cooper series which are made from pieces of the Mini Cooper.
The legendary timepieces are available at all Red Army Watches—1 Utama Shopping Centre, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, and Gurney Plaza as well as mo.men.tum in Sunway Velocity.
